Consolidating two itunes libraries

Your i Tunes library is a set of commands that the application uses to find where the song or video that you want to use is located.

There are a number of options for how you can organize your library. When you install i Tunes, you will have the option to add music and video files from your computer or network to i Tunes.

By doing so, you will be creating a "library" that your i Tunes application can use to locate your files for playback.

Whether you have them organized in multiple folders in several locations or if you simply have a folder for music and videos, the files themselves are not located in the same folder.

Because of this, as you play audio or video through i Tunes, each file you choose (or your computer chooses if you are shuffling) will have to have i Tunes locate the file through its library to the location of the file wherever it is stored.

If the problem is only moving everything inside the i Tunes folder to the external drive, a simple cut and paste would solve it. Nobody wants to re-fill hundreds (or thousands) of song information, re-assign all the ratings, re-paste all lyrics and re-hunt for the cover art.

The only thing that should be different after the move is the location.

Now click on the Advanced tab and check to make sure that the i Tunes Media folder location is set to the default path, which should be Users/Username/Music/i Tunes/i Tunes Media.
